Daisuke san was amazing and would have picked us up from the station but we didn’t need to as we were already in town. We planned to leave our luggage at reception and ski Akakura onsen before checkin but when we got there in the morning our room was already ready!😍 The room was lovely traditional Japanese style. There was an entranceway with another western style single bed and our own bathroom (with bath) and then sliding doors into the sitting and main bedroom tatami area. There was a lounge area downstairs in lobby with a tv and lollies. There was also a microwave and vending machines and a little shop. The dry room downstairs was large and had locks for skis and boots. Another mini dry room for coats and jackets. One morning I came down to ask about bus times and Daisuke san offered to drive me to the slopes and even gave me a discount voucher. He had lots of other discount tickets for lifts passes too. He also drove us to the train station when we left. There is yukata to wear down to the onsen and tea set in your room and a fridge. There is an arrangement of paintings downstairs. Daisuke called and made some reservations for us for dinner at a couple of places. It is a short walk to akakura onsen Panorama lift and into the centre of town. There are a couple of convenience stores/shops just a few doors down. You will get a map of the area with shops and restaurants marked at checkin.

Location was perfect, just outside one of the Akakura Onsen chairlift. View was great (we got the mountain view), onsen availability was helpful in soothing our tired muscles. Emergency food (shops/restaurants open late and close early) was variable and vending machines available. The one time we got breakfast (on the last morning) was fantastic, great spread and a variety of food, and a mix of wester and japanese cuisine. I love the no-shoes policy, keeps it cleaner than most places, and the owner, Daisuke, is such a lovely man, does not have perfect English but can easily converse (which is not common with the Japanese people). He was always helpful and willing to do anything we asked. They also provided a shuttle to and from the hotel, which was great!

The hotel is in a fantastic location, very close to the slopes, making it extremely convenient for skiing. It’s also just a short walk to the main street, where all the restaurants and bars are located. Additionally, it’s very easy to reach from the train station, and I really appreciated the owner’s support with transportation arrangements. This was a family trip for us, and they were incredibly accommodating of the fact that we had a little kid. The warmth with which they welcomed us and the baby was truly exceptional—something we haven’t experienced elsewhere. I really, really appreciated the support and care they provided from this perspective, which made our stay even more special. A wonderful place for a family getaway!

The host Daisuke and his wife Mari have done their best to make us feel like we are home. The room was clean and had everything we need. The onsen was not crowded and was comfortable. We were provided with discount vouchers for the nearby ski lifts. Daisuke was kind enough to welcome us at the Myoko train station and bring us to our next hotel location. The hotel is located right next to the Akakura Onsen ski resort. The Akakura Kankan is about 5 min away and but there is a free shuttle bus and the closest bus stop is in less than 10 walk, which is quite convenient for us to to get to the other resorts. Overall, our stay was comfortable and we would love to come back here.

The whole stay was amazing! Daisuke, the owner, picked us up from Myoko-kogen station and took us back when we left. The hotel is small and family-run with very friendly staff. The room was nice and comfortable. The buffet breakfast has many options, mainly Japanese but you can find Western options as well. Being a vegetarian I found multiple options to choose from. There's also an Onsen on the lower level where you can warm up after a cold day on the slopes. The best part is how close it is to Akakura-Onsen's chairlift and just a block from the town's centre which has a lovely old Japanese style. We would definitely choose Akakura Wakui if we come back.
